The Maha Kumbhabishekam of the Temple of Sri Abithakujambal Samedha Sri Arunachaleswarar at Venmani Village, Polur Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, will be performed on March 25, from 9.30 a.m. – 11 a.m., by Pattam Halasyanatha Sivachariyar of Tiruvannamalai.
The rituals begin on the morning of March 22. Annadhanam will take place on all four days.
Venmani is a village situated between Vandavasi and Polur. It is 10 km away from Devikapuram, which houses a famous temple for Ambal. The temple at Venmani is said to have been destroyed during the Vandavasi war and even daily pujas were not performed for several years. In the year 2000, the dilapidated structure which was completely covered by bushes, was cleaned up and a small temple for Lord Siva, using the stones found in the ancient temple, was built.
The original temple belonged to the 7{+t}{+h} century. Pujas for the deity were performed and soon an old Amman figure found buried in the soil was also installed at the temple, though a separate shrine for the Goddess could not be built. But the work has been taken up now and work is going on.
Niches for Nardhana Ganapathi, Dakshinamurthi, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga, and a Nandi Mandapam are in place. So are Navagraha, Kalabhairavar and Sandikeswarar sannidhis.
The cost of the four-day event is Rs.4.5 lakhs. So funds are sought from devotees for the smooth conduct of the Kumbhabishekam and for the completion of the renovation work.
