In keeping with the current trend of introducing new concepts and ideas into the cultural landscape of the city, Elixir Management India will present ‘Atmospherics’, a world fusion concert on
October 24, 6.45 p.m., at The Music Academy.
The event will have an array of musicians performing together and therefore fusing a combination of genres in a single setting. The ensemble comprises Vijay Prakash on the vocals, Stephen Devassy on the keyboard, Josy John on the bass guitar, H N Bhaskar on the violin, Ghatam Karthick on the ghatam, Arun Sukumar on the drums, Santhosh Chandran on the guitar, Ustad Dilshad Khan on the sarangi and Sai Giridhar on the mridangam.
“We will integrate all kinds of genres: Hindustani, Coke Studio, film music etc. I think such a wide variety of artists have never collaborated before,” said Vijay Prakash.
Excited about performing in Chennai, Prakash explains that fusion as a concept is an interesting one. “Purists may not accept fusion as a concept. However, the difference between a traditional and a fusion performance is the element of anticipation. The audience at a traditional concert will know what to expect. Fusion is more spontaneous and generally, takes shape during the performance itself,” he added.
Tickets for the show will be available at Music Academy, Fruit Shop on Greams Road (Besant Nagar, Anna Nagar), Lloyds Tea House, eventjini and bookmyshow. Donor passes: Rs.5000 , Rs.3000 , Rs.2000 , Rs.1000 , Rs.500 and Rs.300. For queries, contact 9789922182 .
