Twenty-seven artists came together in a concerted effort to save the tiger, our national animal from vanishing. Presented by Polka Art, ‘Tiger-Tiger' the art exhibition, included artists like Binoy Varghese, Subodh Kerkar, Bose Krishnamachari, Yusuf Arakkal, Anjolie Ela Menon, Brenda Miller, Baba Anand, Seema Kohli, Vikramaditya Singh, Yashwant Deshmukh, Riyas Komu, Sanjay Bhattacharya, and many more. The exhibition was formally unveiled by Maneka Gandhi, MP Lok Sabha and Dilip Khatau, Chairman, Corbett Foundation at The Aman New Delhi.
Works done in different media, canvases, sculptures, place emphasis on tiger conservation and its significance by bringing to life the majestic colours of nature and its tangled relationship with human beings. “Tiger-Tiger is an effort to create further awareness for protecting tigers. Our national animal is getting extinct from our own country. ‘Polka' intends to sell the paintings displayed in the exhibition possibly to corporate sponsors, also, to show short films made by the artists on this subject. We will also try to make an effort to tie up with a Tiger Foundation, or donate part of the proceeds of the show to a tiger foundation to help in the conservation work to ‘Save the Tiger',” said Arti Singh, curator and owner of the gallery.
Last year, another Delhi-based gallery undertook an initiative by launching a public art project Artiger, on Tiger by engaging 58 artists to create life-size fibreglass tigers.
