I have scored 73% in both X (ICSE, 2013) and XII (ISC, 2015) Commerce Stream. My basic interest is in Mathematics and I want to pursue CA. I want to know if the programme is tough. Can I pursue it along with the degree programme, and should I pursue day or evening degree programme? Any other suggestion is welcome.

CA should be your natural progression considering that you are in the Commerce stream. Your thought process is on the right track. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) (www.icai.org) allows a prospective candidate who is eligible for enrolment to any of the level (s) of the Intermediate (IPC) course on passing the Common Proficiency Test and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognised by the Central Government as equivalent thereto. Considering that you have completed the XII examination, you are eligible. You should connect to the Bangalore branch of SIRC of ICAI (www.bangaloreicai.org) and discuss the opportunities.

At this juncture, you should opt for classroom sessions and not distance learning. The going definitely will be tough, but considering the nature of inputs in both the programmes, you will be able to stand out.

My son is in Class 12. He has taken PCMC. He is interested in technology. Can you suggest which field he can choose?

The domain of engineering is as always path breaking with plenty of innovations and emerging technologies. Sectors such as aerospace, biomedical science, robotics, gadgets, energy and its consumption, and automobile engineering, have been innovating like never before.

Hence, based on his interest, he should enrol for engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Aerospace, Automobile, Instrumentation and Electrical and Electronics. Joining any of the IITs or other leading institutions like NIT, BITS (Pilani and Hyderabad) will take him on the lane to success. He should be part of the innovation labs that will be the doorway to reach out to new technologies. You should leave it your son, and also support in his decision making.
