Not smooth sailing

After she gained admission to the Chengelpet Government Medical College sailor Rohini Rau was told by her professors to give up her sport now that she had got a seat. But she was determined to keep up both. With a compulsion to finish her course under eight years, Rohini says taking time off for competitions, like up to six months, has resulted in her taking seven years to reach her pre-final year. “Though my college has been quite fair with my ODs and offs, because of this restriction, I can’t take any off till I finish my final. I will have to limit my participation to one national and one international event and focus on keeping up my fitness meanwhile,” she reveals of her plans.
