Yoda the beagle: once lost, and now found

Losing a pet dog is like losing a child. The pet owner ends up blaming himself for the situation. Anjanaa Damodharan, a resident of Ashok Nagar, could not stop blaming herself when her one-year-old beagle, Yoda, went missing.

“Yoda was one of the beagles that were rescued by the Blue Cross. The moment we saw him, we could not help but bring him home. We already have a dog at home, Obelix, a mongrel that we adopted. But he was only too glad to have a play mate,” says Anjanaa

Yoda is extremely playful and the family enjoys watching his antics. He loved to go out and every time the gate opened, he would rush out to play. “We had some guests come over and they had forgotten to shut the main gate. Yoda thought its playtime and rushed out. It took us a while to realise that Yoda was missing. We dropped everything else and began looking for him. Every member of the family was outside, shouting out his name. We asked every neighbour, but no one had seen him. It was already night and none of us could sleep,” she says.

Anjanaa posted desperate lost alerts on social networking sites. She even sent out ads on newspapers with her number on it. Some of Anjanaa’s friends walked down streets in the vicinity of house, hoping to find Yoda.

“With searches leading us nowhere, the next day was just as gloomy. Just as we were beginning to lose hope, we received a call. The caller claimed he saw the advertisements in the paper and that the beagle was with him.

We checked the description and within 10 minutes we were there for a happy reunion,” says Anjanaa, who discovered, to her joy, that Yoda’s rescuers took good care of him. “If those people had ignored Yoda, he could have gotten into wrong hands.”
