V. M Sandeep first started playing tennis at the age of four and has already racked up a lot of titles in the past two years.

City boy V.M. Sandeep has reached the top of the tennis rankings in the under-12 category after winning the Ramesh Desai U12 National Tennis Title held at Cricket Club of India, Mumbai recently.

With this title, Sandeep, ranked number 22 in the under-12 category, has entered the top 25 in the under-14 category.

In the final held in Mumbai, Sandeep defeated top seed Gaurav Kurva of Telangana in three sets. This year so far, Sandeep has won five titles and finished runner-up in two other events.

The class eight student first started playing tennis at the age of four and has already racked up a lot of titles in the past two years.  

Sandeep trains at the Triangle Tennis Trust, YMCA in the city.

Sandeep, who is a fan of Swiss Roger Federer, says, “My ambition now is to be the number one in country in the next few years.”
