N.R. Chandrasekaran is busy sorting out some 200 books into various categories. These books had been donated to him. He is waiting to receive more books as donation. Once all the books come in, he would have them arranged on the shelves of a free library in T. Nagar.

The new generation is not excited about the prospect of playing outdoors and reading books, he says.

Now retired, he wants to engage children in story-telling sessions.

“I have been getting some audio and video books. I am planning to play them at the library for the children.”

The library will cater to children up to the age of 15 years.

“Reference material such as encyclopaedias can be read at the library. The story books can be taken home by the children,” he adds.

Chandrasekaran also plans to visit nearby schools to popularise his library and get young readers to visit it. “To begin with, I plan to circulate the books in T. Nagar, West Mambalam and Ashok Nagar. Based on its popularity, I will encourage others to start a similar initiative in their neighbourhood.”

Those who wish to donate children’s books to the library can contact Chandrasekaran at 97105 10641.
