At sixty-four, N. Jagadeesan does not entertain thoughts of retirement. In fact, he is thinking of a long career that seems to be lying ahead of him.

He has exhibited 40 of his paintings at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Egmore. This is his first solo exhibition where he has displayed paintings of nature and landscapes in acrylic, oil and water colours.

“It was only two months ago that I started work for the show. I usually like to complete a painting in one or two days,” says the resident of Rangarajapuram.

Jagadeesan, who retired from Murugappa Group as senior accounts manager, was always interested in drawing and painting. For a short period after retirement, the self-taught artist also worked with Maven Art Academy at Kodambakkam as art instructor where he got to brush up his painting skills, while teaching others.

B.R. Annapillai, founder of Tamilnadu Art and Craft Improvement Association, encouraged him to participate in shows.

The events he has participated in as an artist include a road show conducted by the Puduchery Ovia Nunkalai Kuzhu, a group show of TACIA Chitra Kala Mela-2015 at Thakkar Baba Vidyalaya and the 40th Annual Art Exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi.

“I am next working on putting up an exhibition of south Indian temples,” he says.

The exhibition will be on till October 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (except on Sunday).
