Kavita Chesetty’s transition from home baker to restaurateur has been natural. Kavita has been a foodie from a young age. She started with baking cakes at home and after 17 years of experimentation, she took the big step of setting up a cupcake shop at Adyar and calling it Cupcakes Amore.
“I started two years ago after getting trained in Australia under Piero Brunetti, a renowned pastry chef. I decided to focus on cupcakes as they are trendy and allow an element of creativity. Also I can play with different flavours and fillings,” says Kavita, who does not believe in hiding her recipes. “There should be no secrets when in comes to food. If my customers ask me for the procedure of making a cupcake they like I readily tell them the steps to follow,” she adds.
She recently opened her second outlet on TTK Road in Alwarpet. The shop offers three categories of cupcakes: classic, special and premium. While the eight classic varieties are available every day, the other two are rotated every week. The secret of success, Kavita says, lies in the quality of ingredients she uses. “I shuttle between the two outlets and bake the cupcakes myself every morning. I use no artificial flavouring.”
Apart from cupcakes, the outlet also offers cookies, brownies, donuts, pizzas, sandwiches and quiche made from specially sourced Dutch cheese. Their filter coffee is also a big hit with visitors. Though right now Cupcakes Amore does not have a home delivery option, Kavita is planning to start it soon. She also customises the cupcakes as per needs. For those who want to give cupcakes as gifts, the shop offers gift vouchers worth Rs. 500, 750 and 1,000. The cupcakes are priced at Rs. 90, 110 and 130 for the three categories respectively. The shop also has a rack full of books for adults and kids to read while they enjoy a cupcake. Cupcakes Amore is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all days except Sunday. The outlet is at 36, 1st Cross Street, Kasturbai Nagar, Adyar and 16, TTK Road, 1st Cross Street, Alwarpet. Ph: 2445 0108/ 2436 0108.
