A pothole at a bay in the Chromepet Bus Stop is posing a danger to commuters, cyclists and pedestrians.
The pothole is dumped with boulders and iron rods. Chances of falling into the pothole are high during rush hour when the commuters run helter-skelter to board the buses.
Several hundreds of pedestrians use the bay during rush hour and it is a common sight to see boys jumping across the pit.
“The damaged surface poses a threat to commuters and passers-by. A commuter was injured after tripping on the pothole a couple of weeks ago. More people will hurt themselves if it is left unattended,” S. Nagendran, a commuter, said.
Cyclists, by way of avoiding the G.S.T. Road, use the bay and fall when they hit the pothole.
“When it rains, puddles of water appear, making the area inundated and the pothole invisible” said R. Mahesh, a commuter.
Commuters and pedestrians urged the Pallavapuram Municipality to take steps at the earliest to fill the pothole.
When contacted, K.M.R. Nissar Ahmed, chairman, Pallavapuram Municipality, said though the road came under the jurisdiction of State Highways Department, the Municipality would take steps to fill the pothole.
