It is good news for commuters who park their vehicles at Thiruvanmiyur MRTS station as the parking bay there has got two new pairs of watchful digital eyes now. The 638-sq-ft slot, for two-wheelers and cycles, were installed with CCTV cameras a week ago. The contractor, Krishnaiah, has done it at his own expense. “Recently, a team of police officials who inspected the parking slot suggested that it will be better if CCTV cameras are installed and I also felt they are essential these days. They work as a pro-active measure,” says the contractor.
“As of now, there are two cameras and we have plans to commission two more so that the entire premise will be under surveillance,” says manager Shanmugham. The installation of the devices has won the appreciation of many commuters. “Now, I feel much safe to leave behind my vehicle here. Times are such, these cameras have become indispensable. It will be better if more tube lights are also installed. I usually return at 7 p.m. At that time, I find the place to be dim,” says Janaki Rani, a resident of Thiruvalluvar Nagar who parks her vehicle here every day. She also suggested that better flooring should be laid.
Another commuter Rathi Devi, also expressed happiness about the greater vigilance at the parking slot, says, “Another entrance should be provided from the Thiruvanmiyur side. Now, I have to drive up to Rajiv Gandhi Salai to enter the bay.” The parking slot also has mineral water cans. “This we do it is a service,” says Ramesh, a staff at the parking slot.
