When he tried he didn't get it. But when he didn't, he got that eluding break. That's the curious story of debut actor Vikram Shekar. When his efforts to gain entry into the tinsel town as an actor were not materialising, Vikram Shekar determined to be part of the film industry, joined his team of friends led by choreographer turned filmmaker Sri Kishore in their story discussions. The team named their banner Clapboard Studios and titled their film, Sasesham .

Their next step was to hunt for an actor to play the protagonist. After a thorough search, the team finally looked at Vikram Shekar and said, ‘why not him?' “It was a pleasant surprise for me. Of course I want to be in the industry — if not as an actor then in some technical section. This is the result of a two-year struggle to find a footing,” said the debut actor.

The youngster had come from Khammam to Hyderabad in search of a job. But he says that he had been clear since his student days that the job must be in movie land. By then some of his friends had joined the directorial department. “I thought it would be easy to gain entry but it is not so. I now also know the responsibility of a lead actor and how much weight he had to shoulder to meet the expectations. Fortunately, I am making my debut with a truly different story where there is lot of scope to show a variety of emotions. It is a good script. I was able to pull it off thanks to my co-stars and the tea of technicians. All of us are under 35 and the composition of such a young team also went in my favour when I faced the camera for the first time,” he adds.

With the industry opening up to new talents, he says that he too is getting offers. “If my debut film is a thriller, I would like to see my next release as a romantic love story. I do not want to be typecast. I am here to portray different kinds of roles. But all said and done I want to settle as a mass hero. Isn't it every debut actor's dream?,” he smiles.

As you look at the soft natured guy, he quickly adds, “Those who know me and those who go by my looks say that I am more suited for soft characters. But I hail from an agricultural family from Mallupalli in Khammam district. Basically I am a rural guy so there is a mass man inside me,” guffaws this movie buff who watches every kind of movie. Vikram Shekar is confident that the road ahead will lead him to seal a permanent place in tinsel world.
