Hansika Motwani flashes an impressive resume; just 19 years old and has completed 15 films. Four big hit Tamil releases this year, one with Karunanidhi's grandson and the other with Vijay is waiting to hit the screen, two Telugu movies Oh My Friend and Kandireega under production. Amidst her new found love for Tamil movies, she stresses equal amount of passion for Telugu projects that gave her a break and says God has been very kind to her and at this point of time she is extremely content. She is busy, successful but does it bother her that she isn't still numero uno? The actress feels she has age on her side and has a long way to go. There will definitely be a project that she will come across some day and will become a super star but that will hold no importance to her. She has seen, studied the industry right from the time she was a child artiste and knows that it all takes one flop to bring one down the ladder.
Working in Hindi films is no big deal for her, and has already worked in films like Aap Ka Suroor and Money Hai Tho Honey Hai . The reason she is away from Mumbai is that she isn't comfortable being linked with anyone and everyone, the media down south is conservative and she quite likes that. She thinks that she should be in the news only when she has something to offer the audiences, being in the news for all the wrong and fabricated reasons is not something she prefers. “If my movie releases, I want the people to be excited, happy and they should be looking forward to seeing me and my work. I want them to be happy about my presence. It's not very difficult to do a Hindi film for an established actress like me, I seek quality and returns from my film,” she says.
Hansika never requires a lipstick or rouge. The natural blush on her peach and cream complexion is a cinematographer's delight. When Prabhu Deva auditioned 158 girls for his film (the recently released Engeyum Kaadhal ), he had in mind an actress without make up and Hansika fit the bill correctly. The actress too doesn't believe in dabbing layers of pancake. She also doesn't believe in size zero, likes to eat healthy and sleep on time and wonders if Madhubala or Meena Kumari ever resorted to dieting. No partying or pub-hopping for her either. “I don't like looking beautiful at 12 in the night; I should be able to put my best foot forward, fresh, lovely and active in front of the camera.” She adds that she hasn't missed out on college either, she would attend ten days and the remaining 20 was allocated to work. She doesn't agree that in her first film Desamuduru , all she did was to smile and later evolved as an actress. “I'm astonished that people say that. Those who have doubts should see the work I did during childhood, Aap Ka Surroor . It depends on how a director draws the work out of you. Compare Amitabh Bachchan's Lal Badshah and Paa . It was the same man who did both the films but can you ever say he's not a great actor?”
It's not all work and no play. The actress doesn't miss out on her friends either. Most of them are her childhood friends. She has ensured they are not star-struck. They are the ones who have helped her remain grounded and even said, “Hansu, you have done a bad film!”
