What it is about…

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Creations' Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey is produced by C. H. Mayuri Shekar and written and directed by Narayan Nagendra Rao. Gopi Amarnath is the cinematographer and M. Thiyagarajan, the editor. JPK Prem has taken care of the art direction. The cast includes Aari, Subha, Panchu Subbu, R. S. Shivaji, Balaji, Tejaswini, Satheesh, Karuna, N. L. Srinivasan and master Vishnu. The audio of the movie was recently released by directors Ameer, Mysskin, Cheran, Prabhu Solomon and Thamira, and received by up-and-coming directors.

Music Highlights

There are nine songs in the movie. ‘Oh Baby Girl' is sung by Hemachandra, with the rap portion rendered by the music director himself. The lyrics are by the director and the music director. ‘Kadal Karayiley' is a good number sung by Shriram Parthasarathy. The cello predominates in this song. All the three versions of ‘Yen Uyirey' sung by Karthik, Chitra and Bombay Jayashree are good — the lyrics are by Rohini. Basically, a Hindustani classical number, ‘Yen Uyirey' has a Carnatic feel. The pathos-filled ‘Yaen Indha Dhideer Thiruppam,' has been written by the director and the music director who has also sung it. It has a lengthy background score, something different from the other songs. The title track, also sung by Achu, is piano-based. ‘Naerathin Neram' is a fine song sung by Achu, Chinmayi and Narayan (the director), who has also written the lyrics. The Carnatic-Blues number ‘Yaaro Ivalo,' sung by Haricharan and written by Rohini, has a a different structure and rhythm which makes it a pleasure to listen to.

Producer Mayuri Shekar: We started doing serials on Captain TV (“Pandavargal” and “Manbumigu Illatharasi”). It was then Narayan Nagendra Rao pitched this storyline to me and made me listen to the songs. I was impressed and decided to produce it. Maalai Pozhudhin… is a film with the ingredients of a box office hit. The story highlights the problems of love and marriage.

Director Narayan Nagendra Rao:Maalai Pozhudhin… is a honest film about people around us. The music, that matches mood and emotions is a strong point. Another highlight is the visuals. The story takes place in a span of two hours. ‘Life is precious, so live it the best possible way' — this is the premise of the film.

Hero Aari: I have six years of experience in theatre. My first film was Rettaichuzhi , produced by director Shankar's S. Pictures. I was waiting for good scripts. One day, I heard a song from this film and it moved me. When the director narrated the storyline to me, I felt the movie would be a trendsetter. I was happy to play the lead.

Music director Achu: I started my career as a keyboardist, playing for my dad. Then I went on to play for other music directors. Kurukshetra in Malayalam marked my debut as a music director. With Maalai Pozhudhin… , I got a break in the Tamil film industry. Those who have listened to the songs of Maalai Pozhudhin have said they are enjoyable.
