Big screen debut
His grandfather, Kavingnar Kannadasan, excelled in poetic lyrics that were made immortal by the likes of TMS. Now, Aadhav Kannadhasan (son of director Kalaivanar Kannadasan) is ready to make his acting debut. He plays hero in Ponmalai Pozhudhu, where he's been cast with Gayathri (of Yen Ippadi Mayakkinai fame). “I've always wanted to act. But, before getting into that, I assisted director GNR Kumaravelu in Yuvan Yuvathi. That helped,” says Aadhav.
Early start
Director Perarasu's daughter is starting her career in films real early! Sukisha, who has very expressive eyes, is doing an important role in Perarasu's Tiruthani, which has Bharath in the lead. What does the director want his daughter to become? “I can never say what she will grow up to be. But, I would like her to become a good director and make meaningful and entertaining films. In Tiruthani she plays a young Bharath's sister. I was looking for a two-year-old for the role; since I could not find anyone suitable, I decided to sign up my own daughter,” says Perarasu.
Newer pastures
Her debut Tamil film Chikku Bukku brought her a lot of attention, despite the fact that an established star, Shriya Saran, was paired with Arya. Says Preetika: “The movie won me Tamil fans across the globe, who connected with me on Facebook and appreciated my work.” Now, she's signed her first Telugu film with Varun Sandesh of Happy Days fame. The love story-cum-family entertainer is directed by newcomer Sravan, an associate of M.S. Raju. “I met Varun in Hyderabad for a photo shoot and we look great together. Also, the script is from the girl's point of view… so, I'm really looking forward to this one! As for Tamil, there are offers which will take some time to materialise. Hopefully, I'll be able to announce something soon.”
Myth-buster?
Director-actor Parthepan dons the role of a village hunter who acts as a bridge between superstitious villagers and a group of college students from a nearby town, in Ambuli . Parthepan's character tries to dispel the myths surrounding these beliefs. New faces Ajay and Sreejith represent the student community along with Sanam and Divya Nagesh (she played Anushka junior in Arundathi ), says director Harishankar.
Terror tales
Prakash Raj and Prithviraj have appeared together in films such as Mozhi and Vellithirai . Director Amal Neerad, who has worked under Ram Gopal Varma, has brought the actors together in his action film Anwar . Paired with Prithviraj in this movie centred around terrorism is Mamta Mohandas. “We want to convey that we have to fight terrorism to end it; it is no use being a mute bystander. In the film, Prithviraj turns a terrorist after his parents are killed in a bomb blast. We also learn that he was trained by an anti-terrorist officer, Prakash Raj. So, is Prithivraj a terrorist or not? That's what the film is about,” says producer Raj Zacharias. Anwar , shot simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam, is scheduled for release next week.
