You were busy as a child actor. What happened after that?
I started my career as a child actor in Devalayam , directed by G.R. Nathan. I was a child actor in about 150 Tamil films, including Chitti , directed by K.S. Gopalakrishnan. Later, I was busy in Telugu and Malayalam films, and worked in over 20 films. Some of my favourite Tamil films are Va Raja Va , Thiruvarutselvar , K. Balachander's Bama Vijayam , Irukodugal , Thamarai Nenjam , and the recent Eram .
Are you unhappyyour talent hasn'tbeen completely utilised in theTamil film industry?
Yes, but I don't know why. Maybe because I don't have a godfather here. Maybe things would have been better, if I'd received more encouragement…
Of late, you're not seen on thesmall screen either.
True. I'm yet to do a significant role on the small screen, though I acted in about 60 programmes for Doordarshan, between 1977 and 1987.
Have you achieved what you wanted to?
No. Acting has always been my priority, and I'm waiting for powerful roles on the small and the big screen. If a good role comes my way, I'll grab it at once.
