Aasamy

What it is about…

Ezhumalaiyan Movies and Lalitha pictures jointly produce Aasamy, for which the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Andal Ramesh. Jayakumar has scored the music and Raj Keerthy has taken care of the editing. The songs are written by Mohan Raj, while the camera has been handled by D. Vasudevan. The film is about how fake godmen cheat people. The audio of Aasamy was released by S. A. Chandrasekhar, president, Producers' Council, and received by director S. P. Muthuraman and actor-director Jayachithra.

Music Highlights

‘Naan Jimiki Poota' is a fast-paced number from beginning to end, with a background score in Ceylon baila style. Suchitra has done a good job of it. ‘Ulagaalum Omkari' is steeped in bhakti. Composed in Shanmughapriya, it has an unusual rhythm structure. Though a tough track, Prasanna has done justice to it. ‘Kurangil Irundhu' is a philosophical song with a message to the common man. Maanicka Vinayagam has rendered this high-pitched song. ‘Devigalil,' in Sindhubhairavi, has been beautifully sung by Nityashri Mahadevan — it seems like the climax number. Madhumitha has rendered the same song equally well.

What they say…

Producer K. Senthamaraikannan:Aasamy is about a fake swami who cheats the public in the name of God. The movie has a powerful message that such godmen will be punished by God Himself. I am happy to be associated with this socially-relevant film.

Director Andal Ramesh: The movie, dealing with a serious subject, features comedy artistes such as Paandu, Anu Mohan, Nellai Siva and Thiyagu. When the film releases it will have a strong impact on the fake godmen and if any one of them undergoes a change of heart, I will be happy.

Music director Jayakumar: My first film as composer is Murai Mapillai, directed by Sundar. C in1995. Then I did director K. S. Athiyaman's Swarnamuki, and now Aasamy . When director Andal Ramesh narrated the entertaining storyline of Aasamy to me, I felt it had great scope for comedy. Each and every song has been beautifully picturised.
