One of those sporting analogies that is not an indicator of a positive thing is dropping the ball. But what if doing so would earn you cash? No, we are not hinting at match-fixing. It is the concept behind Star Vijay’s new game show titled The Wall , which starts airing from October 12 at 9 pm.
EVP Film City in Poonamallee is where the game show — an adaptation of the American TV show of the same name — is filmed. The four-storey-tall plinko board cannot escape your eyes; the playing arena and the wall is lit up in turquoise, the latter changes colours between green and red if the answer is right and wrong respectively.
The game show is hosted by Star Vijay’s resident favourite compères Priyanka Deshpande and MaKaPa Anand. Deshpande says she is “really excited” to be a part of the show. “Playing the game is like watching an India-Pakistan cricket match,” she adds.
There are three rounds, and balls (numbering between one and four) are dropped from the top of the plinko board contingent on stipulations. “Upto ₹2.5 crore in prize money can be won. You just need to have a minimum balance of ₹1 to progress from the first round,” says Anand. We try our hand at the game, and earn up to ₹90,000 only for one wrong answer, and a lot of bad luck, to take the number back to under ₹50,000. The moments until the balls drop into the designated cash trays felt like having our hearts in our mouth.
“If you felt like this, imagine what the actual contestants would go through. There will be joy and shock in equal measure,” Anand concludes.
