From fashion disaster lists to cover girl and being a showstopper for the likes of Tarun Tahiliani and Monisha Jaisingh, Sonakshi Sinha has come a long way in the style department. That she is now the face of European beauty brand MyGlamm only cements her role as a fashion icon.
Speaking about Pose, MyGlamm’s HD make-up range created for Indian skin tones, this vocal supporter of animal rights and PETA says she was drawn to the brand’s cruelty-free status. Referring to the collection that includes blush, highlighter and bronzer duos, setting and banana powder, and 20 lightweight lipsticks, she continues, “I like to think of myself as versatile — I need to be able to convincingly play a small-town girl on film one day and pull off a glamorous magazine cover the next. That’s where the collection matches my personality, because it can create looks from fresh-faced to full-on glam.”
In the past few years, the actor has taken on diverse roles, from playing a social justice warrior in Akira , to a journalist in Noor , and a housewife/murder suspect in Ittefaq . The trend continues with the just-released Khandaani Shafakhana , in which she runs a fertility clinic. And in the upcoming Mission Mangal (releasing August 15), she plays a scientist. “It is not a conscious effort, but I’m someone who goes by my instincts; that makes me choose scripts that are so different from each other,” explains Sonakshi, who is reprising her role as Rajjo Pandey in Dabangg 3 , set for a December 2019 release. She has also wrapped up a war drama, Bhuj , that will release next year.
Sonakshi is just as multifaceted when it comes to her wardrobe. A quick scroll down her Instagram page will find her in everything from sequinned pant suits by Dhruv Kapoor to wrap dresses by Johanna Ortiz. Manish Malhotra’s saris are another favourite. “Over the years, my style has evolved because I’ve consciously started choosing outfits I’m comfortable in. I don’t want to be boxed into a certain look. Whether it’s a floral summery dress, a bold in-your-face print, a simple elegant sari or ethnic separates, it really depends on what I feel,” says the 32-year-old star, who is quite vocal about body positivity. In a few months, she will soon step up as a judge on upcoming reality show, Myntra Fashion Superstar. For now, here’s breaking down her various looks.

Airport basics: Late last month, Sonakshi let us know what she really thought of the pressure to be camera-ready at the airport: her neon green Fashion Nova crop top read, “I legit do not care”, and was paired with flared pants, chunky white sneakers and dark triangular sunglasses. Athleisure is key, it appears. “My essentials are joggers and track pants, lots of comfortable T-shirts and ganjis,” she says.
While Sonakshi often sports a fresh-faced look with nude lips and bold winged eyes, she has a soft spot for the classic red lip. “This season, I’m obsessed with the matte red lips that the models wore at Louis Vuitton (Paris Fashion Week FW 2019/2020),” she says.
The heavy-on-blush look from Aigner at their Milan show is another recommendation. As for skincare, it is the usual celebrity code: drink loads of water, moisturise, and take your vitamins.
Sonakshi has been pushing the envelope at numerous red carpet events, with her stylist, Mohit Rao. “Lately, especially for the Khandaani Shafakhana promotions, I’ve been experimenting with co-ords,” says the actor. Her pick? Punit Balana’s organic prints (seen here), monotone separates from Aya Muse, Balmain and Ali Younes couture.
“I love Chola’s modern ethnic sensibility (in photo). For Indian wear, I keep going back to Anita Dongre. I also like the aesthetic of Anamika Khanna and Arpita Khan,” adds Sonakshi.
For full-on glamour, Sonakshi says she is “partial to a bit of sparkle, with a vintage vibe”. That might mean this fringed dress by Yousef Al Jasmi
