Step into Beats Per Minute tonight and you’ll be enraptured by a complete neurological projection of music and art. The second instalment of Rituals of Dance (RoD) will be a celebration of its partner organisation, Sound Simplify, in which artistes from the world over contribute their own forms of the arts in an EDM-heavy two-day festival. There’s a lot to anticipate, and RoD isn’t holding back.

Acts to look out for

A line-up of remixers and DJs starting with Stay Order (comprising Ankit Pandey and Yuvraj Arora) and Sunil Dua will be setting the bar for the forthcoming sets and joins the repertoire with his medley of progressive and tech house tunes. UK-based duo Walking With Kings will also bring their glowing synthesisers and pulsating percussive beats.

Bangalore-based visual artiste VJ Zombie will be giving RoD a sightgasmic art show. Given he’s worked with Skrillex, Fergie and Dimitri Vegas, guests can look forward to some fresh new minimalistic goodness. He shares, “I’m inspired a lot by patterns in nature and wide open spaces. I also draw from the Bauhaus movement and German minimal aesthetics. The ideal visual show is where the music and visuals fuse to become one throbbing, living being with which the audience gets to meet, experience and connect.”

Another artiste influenced by Europe is 1TRAKMIND, who will be kicking off Sunday’s events with his moderate to heavy dose of carefully curated micro-house. He shares it will be his first time playing in the city, “It will, arguably, be one of the first times that an entire set of this riveting sound is played out to an Indian festival audience, and I’m very thrilled to see how these frequencies affect the crowd.”

Delhi-based Arjun Vagale will also be bringing in a solid sound system bound to encourage people to make the most of RoD, sharing “Hyderabad is one of my favourite cities to play in because people are so on it when it comes to techno. I’ll be dropping a lot of new tunes from my label and lately, I've been traveling all over Europe doing club gigs and festivals like Awakenings and Sonar— so my travels translate into my music.”

Unity and safety

Sound Simplify founder Myron Mohit describes the value of music festivals and of their attendees, “Festivals are all about thousands of souls together as one, and music is the magic which makes this happen. We have the best security team and help desk who’ll ensure everything is all right and drug-free. BPM have set up Hire A Driver for intoxicated attendees’ safe return home.” He adds that he hopes people will leave RoD with good memories, a piqued curiosity about the music, and a smile — as well as aching shoulders and legs!
