The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ trailer: whose side is Kylo Ren on?

Dark, broody, emotionally intense and packed with a lot of action -- the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here, giving fans much to think about.

The two-and-a-half-minute trailer shows all the four lead characters grappling with issues. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamilton) doesn’t know whether or not he wants to train Rey (Daisy Ridley), saying he has seen this much raw strength only once before. “It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now,” he says.

Rey, for her part, is looking for someone to just show her a way. “I need someone to show me my place in all this,” she says, and the shot immediately cuts to Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who extends a hand. Will Rey go the Anakin Skywalker way?

Kylo, who murdered his father, Han Solo, in Star Wars: Force Awakens, looks like he is also in the same boat as Rey -- lost and needing guidance. The late Carrie Fisher, who plays General Leia Organa, also makes an appearance in the trailer. The trailer swings back and forth between mother and son, leading fans to speculate whether Kylo might end up killing his mother as well.

All the fan favourites also make an appearance -- Chewbacca, BB8 and even R2D2. Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is in there too, seemingly telling Rey to “fulfill” her “destiny”. John Boyega and Oscar Isaac reprise their roles as former stormtrooper Finn and fighter pilot Poe Dameron.

The movie is scheduled for release on December 15. Watch the trailer here:
