• According to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, the series gave filmmakers a chance to dive a little deeper into two intriguing characters. “Anthony and Sebastian are spectacular actors and we felt like we hadn’t explored their stories enough as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. We wanted to learn more after the interactions they had in The Winter Soldier and Civil War . It was a very fun dynamic,” he says.
  • Like any Marvel offering, while action takes the precedence, Kevin adds that the show explores the emotional trauma these superheroes go through. “You may feel it more because we have more time with a show, but I think that’s something we’ve always tried to do. Iron Man 3 was all about Tony Stark’s PTSD from Avengers essentially. What is great about the Marvel characters is their flaws: for as crazy and extraordinary and supernatural as the MCU can get, it is grounding in the experiences and the emotions of the character.”
  • “That’s always by far the most important anchor for any story we’re gonna tell. There has been a lot of trauma for these characters over the years and you can easily brush that under the carpet because there’s sparkly portals opening, people cheering and Iron Man punching a flying lizard. But really, there are horrific elements to that, which would have repercussions years down the line. That is very fun to explore from a storytelling perspective,” he explains.
