Navi Mumbai: The unidentified youth found dead in Panvel near Dehrang dam could be a student staying away from his family, which could be a reason for no missing person complaint being filed, police suspect.

PI Abhay Mahajan, Panvel Taluka police station, said, “The accused could have kept them in the dark. Educational institutions and hostels are shut for vacation, but we will approach them.”

Police have formed four teams to investigate the case, one each for Pune, Raigad, Thane and Mumbai districts, to find out about similar cases of missing persons. They are also scrutinising dump data in the area.

According to the post mortem report, the youth in his early twenties had been shot thrice. His body was found on the Panvel-Matheran road, 200m from Dehrang dam. His body was found on Saturday morning by an Adivasi, who informed the Police Patil of Maldunge village. The body was sent to the State-run JJ Hospital for post mortem. Mr. Mahajan said police suspect the victim was killed elsewhere and the body was dumped at the spot. The bullets recovered from the body have been sent for forensic analysis to identify the gun used.

The body was around 5 feet, 10 inches in height and was clad in a blue track top, grey track bottoms, socks and sneakers.
