In a novel initiative to familiarise children with the rich cinematic heritage of Indian and World cinema, the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), in association with Arbhaat Films, is starting an exclusive film club for children.
The club will be open to children in the age group of 9-16 years, and a film screening will be organised on the last weekend of every month.
The first screening will be filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s multiple National Award winning film Sonar Kella (‘The Golden Fortress’, 1974) from the Feluda detective series on February 25, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at NFAI’s Kothrud premises in Pune.
The classic, based on Ray’s own 1971 mystery novel, has iconic Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee essaying the role of private eye Feluda, out to solve the kidnapping of a boy who claims to be able to remember events of his previous life.
With the aim to sensitise children to the wonders and importance of cinema, the film club hopes to further the NFAI’s objective of disseminating a healthy film culture.
“We are delighted to start this initiative. We have invited various schools to participate in it,” said Dr. Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI.
“Children should see great cinema of the world that will help mould their personality,” said Umesh Kulkarni, noted filmmaker and founder of Arbhaat Films, adding, “The NFAI is the hub for all significant film activities in the country and we are excited and happy to be associated with them in this initiative.”
