The much-anticipated poster of actor Vijay’s next film was released on Wednesday. The film, titled Mersal , is directed by Atlee. Up until the release of the name of the film, Thalapathy61 was dubbed as the tentative title.

Atlee posted the name and poster of the film on Twitter ahead of Vijay's birthday. The poster shows Vijay in a typical traditional avatar.

Others in the cast are Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menon and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the female lead roles, while S.J. Surya, Sathyaraj and Vadivelu also play key roles. The film is written by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad and produced by Sri Thenandal Films.

The film will have AR Rahman’s music, which will be launched in August. Planned as a grand Deepavali spectacle, the film will see Vijay in three roles, one of which is that of a doctor.

“About 65% of the film has been completed, including two songs; one each with Nithya Menen and Kajal Aggarwal. Samantha has already joined the team in Chennai and the film will be completed before July-end, in three more schedules,” a source told IANS .

Popular comedian Yogi Babu has also joined the unit in Chennai, and two more songs are being planned to be shot. 

This will be director Atlee's second outing with actor Vijay, the first one being blockbuster Theri .
