July 14 was just another Sunday evening for 19-year-old Diya Thomas. That is, until actor Vijay Deverakonda walked into her house near JLN Stadium at around 8.30 pm. The visit was “so beyond my imagination that even my friends refused to believe it. I have never seen actor or star, even from a distance. Imagine...Vijay Deverakonda!” She is still reeling from the shock of the surprise visit by one her favourite actors. Deverakonda was in the city to promote his next release, Dear Comrade .

“My brother knew and he kept it a secret...nobody else in the family knew.” The visit was arranged by Deverakonda’s fans. She regrets not asking him questions she had, “after all it is not everyday that a superstar walks into your house for a cup of tea. He had no airs, he was like any other guest — he even removed his footwear before entering our house. Vijay sir even went up to my grandmother and spoke to her, in Tamil though.”

Diya, whose father is a building contractor and mother a housewife, is set to move to Germany, to pursue a course in nursing next February. She has another regret, “I couldn’t get a good selfie with him, my phone camera isn’t very good. Those who came with him clicked photos on cameras, I am hoping to get some.”

He was at Diya’s place for half an hour. She was so excited that she could barely sleep afterwards. Fahadh Faasil is a favourite among Malayalam actors. Can she visualise one of Malayalam film industry’s stars popping in for a cup of tea? “No, I don’t think so, not like this.”

Looks like Vijay Deverakonda has made a fan for life.
