“I would have loved for a Tamil film to be my 50th, but I could not resist the Bollywood offer,” says Raai Laxmi, referring to Julie 2 that marks her Bollywood debut . “It is not just about the skin show, as the promos may have made you believe.” The film had a lot of scope for acting, she adds. “There’s sentiment and comedy too. It is a story that every girl who has ever aspired for stardom can relate to.”
She was also recently seen playing a cameo in A. R. Murugadoss’ Akira . “That is how the doors opened for me in Bollywood, paving way for Julie 2. Julie 2 is also very different from the original that had Neha Dhupia playing a sex worker.”
She is also eager to work in other languages. “I am looking at scripts in Punjabi, Bhojpuri and Bengali.” Is that a sign that she’s not getting a lot of offers in Tamil cinema? “Far from it. I keep getting horror films though. I’ve done an item number in Lawrence’s Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva should win me more friends in the industry which gave me my first break in Karka Kasadara. That should bring me in the reckoning again.”
