Get ready for a Sunday morning with a Kathak performance. The event is organised by Nrityanidhi’, a dance institution, started by Shoma Kaikini Singh.
Shoma with her husband Harshvardhan Singh will present Rang Manch , which they say is a tribute to Indian classical dance and music.
Harshvardhan is a student of Pandit Birju Maharaj while Shoma has attended many workshops under the dance maestro.
The duo will be accompanied by musicians Sandeep Mishra (Sarangi), Amit Mishra (on vocals and table).
“The show is dedicated to the rich legacy of Indian classical dance and music. In the past, we have done several shows that focussed on fusion in nature with ghazals, sufi and old Hindi melodies. But this time we wanted to bring out the richness of Kathak and its purity.”
Explaining the meaning of Rang Manch, Shoma says “Rang Mach means colours on the stage. The idea is to fill the stage with the colours of dances. This time we wanted to do something purely classical and chose to perform in the morning so that people can begin their day with some lovely classical dance.” The highlight, of the show, will be a Kathak recital to the Kannada song Krishna Nee Begane Baro . “We are excited about this,” adds Shoma. The event will be held on November 18 at 11.30 am at Alliance Francaise.
