Attend a unique poetry-tree walk, facilitated by Bengaluru-based writer, poet and tree lover Priyanka Sacheti. “I am fond of photographing trees and spending time with Nature,” says Priyanka, adding: “It has helped me in various ways, especially with regard to anxiety. Research has also shown that consistently spending time with Nature works wonders for your mental and physical health. Many of my writings too revolve around or are in response to Nature, especially trees. I was hoping to conduct a walk for a while and when I heard about Bhor Foundation and the amazing work they are doing regarding mental health, I reached out to Jhilmil Breckenridge, its co-founder and a poet herself, about collaborating on a walk.”

She adds: “My hope is that participants take away a deeper awareness of the magnificent trees we encounter daily in Bengaluru and explore the medium of poetry to respond to these trees in their unique voices. Given the worrying situation of so many trees being cut down, we need to first acknowledge their presence and contributions and then make a concerted effort to save them from destruction.”

The walk will be held at Cubbon Park on Priyanka adds: “I have chosen the entrance opposite the UB City signal. There is no real reason other than there is a stretch of some of the most beautiful rain trees I have seen in the city. I associate raintrees with Bengaluru as it’s only here I have seen such stunning specimens with their incredible canopies.” The walk will be held on July 28, from 8 am to 10 am.
