“My children are either playing cricket or watching TV. To divert their attention, I send them to art classes and they are fun,” says Rajeswari Kesavan of K K Nagar.

Jayanthi Aravind from Tahsildar Nagar feels her children are more focussed and patient after attending art classes. They are also thinking positive, she says.

Many parents in Madurai are choosing art over sports or any other activities for their children this summer. For once, the number of art camps are substantially higher this year in the city in comparison to swimming, cricket and basketball, theatre and science camps. If the timing and flexible dates, the age-grouping and the spectrum of learning and the reasonable fee is attracting, then parents feel the art camps are also keeping their children safe from the heat and dust.

G Saraska, one of the young learners, says she has begun to enjoy drawing. “I observe colours now, feel nature, look at patterns in designs and have become more expressive after attending art classes.

Here we bring you details of some art summer camps in the city to keep your kids creatively and happily busy.
