“Your life shouldn’t be centred within the four walls of your home,” says Swetha, a home maker with dreams.

Swetha’s art displays her imagination. The collection at Alliance Française, is her first show. Marriage and a toddler wasn’t a barrier for Swetha. As a student of fine arts, subjects that usually went unnoticed, caught Swetha’s eye.

The series revolves around a lake and its surroundings. Fish, birds and waves are some of the main elements which narrates the story of a woman and her mind. Speaking of her inspiration, Swetha said, “There is nothing specific. I once went to a lake side and seeing the fish and birds in the sky made me draw a connection. A woman is like a fish, she is quick and adaptive. And she should be like those birds in the sky, soaring free and not caged.”

The black-and-white, sharp, delicate lines gives rise to sea monsters and mermaids in one’s mind. The vivid yet familiar way of symbolism leads to where the artist wants to take us. “The fish stands for fertility, creativity, transformation and knowledge.”

The detailed fish scale effects and the face of a woman in between brings an illusion of depth to the drawings. The viewer has the liberty to digress and search out different paths of meaning.

“The art works offer traces from my experience.” Swetha said she plans to create a mature version of this show in the future.
