The Congress party’s NYAY scheme is a surgical strike on poverty, said party president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday while addressing an election rally in Nagpur. He also declared that an inquiry into the Rafale deal would be conducted after elections and the ‘chowkidar’ will be jailed.

“Anil Ambani who has no experience in building aeroplanes is being given the contract in Rafale jet deals. He has a loan of ₹45,000 crore and was to go to jail few days back, but was saved by his brother. He has never built an aeroplane in his life. All his businesess failed but contract was given to him,” said Mr. Gandhi at his first election rally in the State in Nagpur, where Congress’s Nana Patole is contesting against former BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

“Do you see a chowkidar outside a farmer’s house? Do you see chowkidar outside worker’s house? But you will have chowkidars outside Anil Ambani’s house. There will be inquiry about this after elections and we will take action and those chowkidars who allowed the deal will be jailed,” announced Mr. Gandhi.

Advocating his party’s recently announced NYAY scheme, under which ₹72,000 per year will be given to poor families, Mr. Gandhi said, “The BJP leaders ask me from where will the money come. Let me tell you that the money will come from the pockets of Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and many other thieves. There is no dearth of money,” he said. Asking if ₹3.5 lakh crore loan of 15 industrialists can be waived off then why can’t that of farmers, Mr. Gandhi announced that his party will waive off farm loans. He said the Congress has pledged that in this country no one should earn less than ₹12,000. “So we are doing surgical strike on poverty,” he said.

Taunting Mr Modi, he said, “I talk truth. I want to create long term relationship. If I lie I will be caught, but I want to work with you for 15-20 years more. Modiji has grown old, his age is not on his side so he gets worried and so he is in hurry, but I am not in hurry.”

Raising questions over whether Mr Modi has followed his ‘dharma,’ he said, “Look at what Modiji has done to his guru Advaniji. Is this Hindu dharma? And now Modiji will teach us Hindu dharma. Where has it been taught in Hindu dharma that guru should be treated like this?” asked Mr Gandhi.

“I am ready to debate him, but he is not ready. Modiji will only do speeches and never take press conference and he hides every time. He should tell people what has he done for employment, poor, ending corruption and farmers,” said Mr Gandhi.
