After Google dedicated its doodle to the Lok Sabha elections on the first day of polling on April 11, Snapchat has launched an initiative to alert and guide its users about the general elections.
With an intention to encourage its young users to vote, the multimedia messaging app has designed a range of creative tools including filters, stickers, Bitmoji, lenses, and ‘Snap Map’ integrations.
Other platforms
This is not the first initiative by a social media platform to create voter awareness.
Instagram has also launched a sticker for users to share their voting experience. Last month, Facebook provided a new service to the Indian audience called ‘Candidate Connect’, which allows Lok Sabha nominees to share 20-second videos on people’s news feeds.
Snapchat users can opt for lenses and filters to express themselves on issues around the elections and share them with friends. ‘Snap Map’ will enable Indians to check their online voter roll, look up when their constituency is going to vote, and encourage them to cast their ballot with a ready link to the polling location. The app is also guiding users to resources provided by the Election Commission of India.
State elections
The app has also partnered with YLAC India (Young Leaders for Active Citizenship) and is hosting a geo-filter competition to encourage voter engagement and expression for the State elections in Mumbai and Delhi.
