There is growing pressure on the State BJP vice-president and five-time MP, V. Srinivas Prasad, to contest the Lok Sabha election from Chamarajanagar to take on the Congress.

Though Mr. Prasad has ruled himself out of electoral politics after his defeat in the byelection to the Assembly from Nanjangud in 2017 citing age and health, he has had a steady stream of visitors from his district of Chamarajanagar urging him to reconsider the decision.

R. Dhruvaranayan, incumbent Congress MP, is likely to be fielded again.

Mr. Prasad was a Minister in the A.B. Vajpayee’s Cabinet but later joined the Congress and entered State politics. He was the Revenue Minister in the Siddaramaiah government but quit the party and resigned as an MLA on being dropped after the Cabinet reshuffle in 2016. The then joined the BJP.
