EC reviews Bengal situation

The Election Commission on Monday reviewed arrangements in specific constituencies of West Bengal and Tripura that are going to the polls in the second and third phases. The issue of deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces was also taken up. “The review through video conferencing was held with general and police observers and expenditure observers deployed in Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Raiganj, Balurghat, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur and Murshidabad in West Bengal and the Tripura East constituency,” the Commission said. Preventive action taken against the identified trouble-makers was also reviewed. Special Central police observers Vivek Dube (for West Bengal and Jharkhand) and M.K. Das (for Tripura and Mizoram), were also present at the meeting.
