The DMK on Friday submitted a complaint to the Election Commission against PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss over his alleged speech at a public meeting “instigating” his supporters to commit ‘booth capturing’ and sought action against the former Union Minister.

In his plea to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer, DMK Legal Wing secretary R. Girirajan referred to a statement made by Mr. Anbumani at the meeting at Thiruporur on April 4 and enclosed a CD to substantiate his charge. Mr. Anbumani allegedly said: “What will happen in polling booth. We will only be in the booth; Then what? Should I say it openly? Have you understood?”

Claiming that such statements were attempts to instigate his supporters to booth capturing, Mr. Girirajan urged the EC to take action against Mr.Anbumani.

“From the speech, Mr. Anbumani has indicated that they are going to capture the polling booths in the current election to achieve their ulterior object, by committing all sorts of electoral malpractices and offences.” He wanted the EC to arrange paramilitary forces for each booth in certain Lok Sabha constituencies and Assembly constituencies which were going for polls and also to instruct presiding officers to strictly check the identity of the polling agents. Booth capturing was a cognisable offence under Section 135 - A of Representation of People Act, 1951 punishable with a sentence upto three years, the complaint said. Mr. Anbumani has submitted a complaint against Mr. Stalin over some of his statements made against the former Union Minister’s relative.
