Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday equated the Congress with “casteism, nepotism and vote bank politics” hitting out at the Opposition party, holding it responsible for “ruining” the country and the State.
The Prime Minister resumed his electioneering in his home State Gujarat where he held four rallies on Wednesday, spearheading the ruling party’s campaign in the State where the BJP is seeking a rare 7th consecutive mandate.
Besides Mehsana, he held rallies in Vadodara and Bhavnagar and tribal district Dahod. Since the announcement of the Assembly polls, the Prime Minister has held as many as 14 rallies and two roadshows, across the State.
“The Congress leaders always wanted to keep people poor so they remain dependent on government,” he said.
Interestingly, the Congress has emerged as the main target of the Prime Minister’s campaign in Gujarat where the election is being held triangular with the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which now does not appear as a powerful force it looked a few weeks ago.
The Prime Minister and the other BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah in their campaign speech made elaborate efforts to remind the people of the hardships during the Congress regimes in the State before the electorate in which nearly 40 % of it had not seen any Congress-led government in the State.
The PM said the youths in the age-group of 20-30 years may not even know the kind of hardships faced by the people of Mehsana and Gujarat in the past including acute shortage of water and electricity, and other such issues.
“Droughts were also common in those days. Only after the BJP came to power; it has put Gujarat on the path of prosperity amid natural calamities and using limited resources,” he said.
“In the past, water and electricity used to be the major issues during polls. Today, the Opposition can’t speak on these issues because such issues have been resolved by us,” he said.

In the speeches by the Prime Minister; the constant theme was the BJP’s development works, and attacking the Congress for alleged misgovernance of the past regimes while painting the Opposition party to pro-minority in order to polarise the electorate along the communal lines in sharply communally-sensitive State.
In tribal-dominated Dahod; he asked why the Congress did not support the nomination of a tribal woman – Droupadi Murmu – to the post of the President of India.
He told the gathering consisting of mostly tribal voters that despite having many opportunities, the Congress, for several decades, did not elevate a tribal to the post of the President of the country.
Besides the PM, the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Assam were also in Gujarat to campaign for the Assembly polls as a part of the ruling party’s elaborate poll campaign across 182 seats that go for the polling in two phases on December 1 and 5th.
