Swimmers have aced Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission’s (TNEA) merit list for eminent sportspersons quota this year.
The toppers, S. Danush and A. Kaavyashri, both swimmers, have chosen College of Engineering, Guindy and Alagappa College of Technology, Guindy campus.
While Danush has won a silver in an international event, Kaavyashri is a national gold medallist. Both began their schooling in CBSE schools. Later, they moved to a matriculation school as they wanted to pursue their sport.
Danush, who chose Computer Science Engineering, topped the sports quota list with 925 marks and Kaavyashri chose biotechnology. The third rank went to Sunkyktha C.M.U, a chess player, chose Electronics and Communication Engineering at CEG.
Of the 2,018 candidates who applied, the TNEA has declared 684 as eligible and 282 were allotted seats on Sunday. For the 213 vacant seats, the remaining will be called later, said officials.
On Saturday, counselling for wards of ex-servicemen was held. Of the 978 eligible candidates, about 230 were called and 67 were allotted seats. A total of 76 seats are vacant. Based on the vacancy the remaining eligible candidates will be called, according to officials.
