With my passion for media, coupled with a keen interest in pursuing a creative arts-based profession and two communication degrees in hand, I knew I wanted to embark on a more competitive journey; one that would advance my knowledge and practical understanding of all aspects. This brought me to The New School in New York City. What better place to study, learn and experience new media and digital technology than an “innovation hub” filled with 8.6 million smart minds that can consistently fuel your untapped managerial potential and unleash your creative energy!

This comprehensive two-year MS in Media Management programme helps one gain a solid foundation in emerging creative concepts and practices for managing traditional as well as digital media platforms including radio, print, television, social, gaming, music and advertising.

Through market research, critical analysis, group presentations, case studies and internships that culminate in a capstone project, the programme holistically prepares you for the real world. Eminent faculty members consist of media practitioners and industry thought leaders who not only offer robust enrichment around latest key trends and organisation best-practices, but also unmatched opportunities to explore the media and communication business from a unique global context.

The programme offers a plethora of electives and supplementary cross-departmental courses to choose from. For instance, an advertisement designer could build his basic skill sets with the graduate-level media programme and choose an advanced-level strategic design course from Parsons School of Design to further hone his niche competency). The flexibility to mix and match as per one’s interests and distinctly curate the entire programme to one’s unique creative choices has truly been the icing on the cake for me. With frequent field trips, media galas and creative tech events hosted along with opportunities to connect and network with active media communities across the city, my association with the university for the past one and a half years has been amazing.

Hub of creativity

The university encourages a collaborative academic culture as it forms an integral aspect of allowing for synergistic exchange of ideas and information across cultural boundaries and enabling innovative leadership among media enthusiasts. The extensive curriculum has helped me design my own path for an advanced degree of specialisation in my area of passion.

A creative haven comprising more than 40 per cent international students from over 120 countries, the university has helped me challenge the status quo by providing the right tools and frameworks along with cutting-edge exposure through rigorous coursework and on-campus job opportunities.

Nestled in the heart of the city’s popular Union Square and home to numerous falafel trucks and coffee shops, the extravagantly designed building of The New School is the perfect segue to my creative endeavour.
