Holidays have begun, and here’s to a fun holiday by the sea. Seaside holidays have been popular with families for 10 decades or more. There is nothing to beat the blue waters, the burning sand and cool breeze that blows in from the sea. Here are a few tips to ensure you have a whale of a time!
Pack right
You are going to be at the beach for most of the time. So, pack swimsuits, change of clothes, comfortable light and preferably cotton clothing. Having a changes of clothes means you can head somewhere else after the beach. Don’t forget to include good footwear. Take flip flops for the beach. They dry out easily. Carry snacks to tackle those hunger pangs — fruits, juices, sandwiches, chips, and bottles of water. Skip the sodas as those don’t hydrate as well. Also make sure to pack a garbage bag to bring back any trash you may accumulate.
Stay guarded
You don’t want to ruin your beach trip with sunburn. Wear sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. A lip balm with sunscreen to protect your lips is also a must. Make sure to reapply it frequently. Hats and sunglasses offer much needed protection for your face and eyes. A beach umbrella is also handy especially if you want to rest on the sands.
On the side
Carry a beach towel to sit on, but keep it away from the one you’ll be using to dry off with. A basic first aid kit will be handy for scrapes and bruises. Make your own kit by filling it with bandages, band-aids, antiseptic cream , pain relief pills, a thermometer and essential medicine. A waterproof bag is handy while at the beach. Throw in a few zip locks to keep your knick-knacks. Carry along your beach toys (buckets, shovels) in a netted bag, as dusting away the sand is then easier.
Explore
Early in the morning check out the rock pools or the wet sands. You will be surprised with your finds. On a lucky day you will find small shrimps, sand crabs, fish. Also, you can collect shells, driftwood and pebbles. Take a boat cruise and visit places of interest close by to know more about the place. Remember to pick up a couple of postcards too, to send to your friends back home.
