Docile as a lamb

Be willing to listen to opinions, but don’t always be submissive.

“The Labrador is so gentle and docile .”

“The docile pony went wherever it was led.”

“Students who are docile are easy to teach.”

From the above statements, we can guess that the word docile means ready to be controlled or being submissive. Docile comes from the Latin root docere which means teaching; so, someone docile is easy to teach.

A group of people who are easy to influence, persuade or control can be called docile . Docile might be used to praise, but it can also be used to criticise, for being overly obedient.

So, if you are growing up into an independent teenager who hates being advised, then, your parents will surely long for those days when you were a sweet and docile child, ever willing to listen, to be led and taught!
