These four-legged creatures come in all shapes and sizes. Some are friendly, others, not so much, they make yip-yips or woof-woofs, have shaggy hair or not, floppy ears or perky ones. But in spite of the wide variety, one thing is true; every dog wants to be your best friend. The more you shower them with love, the more they will love you right back. Whether you have a dog or not, this summer, you can get that warm fuzzy feeling inside you by watching some of these wonderful movies starring our furry friends.

101 Dalmatians

T here surely isn’t any movie with more dogs than this one. It’s not just 101 dalmatian puppies, it’s mommy dog Perdy and daddy dog Pongo too. They fall in love and their owners Roger and Anita do too. They get married and Perdy and Anita both expect babies at the same time. When 15 adorable puppies are born, wicked Cruella de Vil hatches a plot to steal them all to make herself a coat of their fur. Then follows all the excitement that comes with rescuing not just 15 but 101 of the cute little fur balls.

Marley & Me: ThePuppy Years

H ave you ever wondered what a dog is thinking? This is a chance for you to listen in, not just to any dog, but apparently the world’s worst dog. Marley and his human, Bodi, enter a puppy championship, training with two other Labrador puppies. In this movie, there are many puppies, a villain called Hans, puppies at a puppy spa, the big contest, and a little boy who learns how to handle and care for a dog. And to top it all, of course, is Marley saving the day — a perfect recipe for fun-filled afternoon.

Marmaduke

A great dane is definitely unique: its immense size seems quite scary, but inside beats one of the most gentle hearts. And Marmaduke is the most fun of them all. He and his best friend Carlos, a cat, have all sorts of adventures along with other dogs Mazie, Giuseppe and Raisin, when they move to California from Kansas. There’s love and friendship, and rival dogs too. When Mazie falls into the huge rainwater drain, Marmaduke jumps in to save her. Then, he himself has to be saved. The video of his rescue makes him and his human famous, giving the latter his job back. The grand finale is the most fun — all of them dancing and singing to the song “What I like about you”.

Beethoven

This iconic movie featuring the huge St. Bernard with the droopy melt-your-heart eyes is sure to become one of your favourites. Beethoven is much loved by his new family, except for daddy George. When the vet sees him, he decides he wants this large dog for his unethical experiments. He tricks the family into taking in the dog, and then what happens? The family is sure to rescue him, right? Of course they do. Be it with friends or family, little ones or oldies, everyone is sure to love Beethoven.

Homeward bound

W hat would you do if you thought you were left behind by your family, and even those they left you with had gone away? Would you be brave enough to try and go back home by yourself? That’s what the dogs Chance and Shadow, and cat Sassy decide to do. They tackle the wild mountains of Sierra Nevada, have close encounters with bears, mountain lions, porcupines, and even a little lost girl. Will they make it back home safely?
