Tata Motors expects 15 per cent growth in M & HCV segment

September 12, 2015 12:02 am | Updated 12:02 am IST - KOLKATA:

The demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles is likely to grow in the range of 10-15 per cent this fiscal, a senior official of Tata Motors said on Friday.

“In the last two or three years, demand for commercial vehicles, mainly medium and heavy, has remained subdued. But we expect the demand to pick up and growth will be in the range of 10 to 15 per cent this fiscal,” Rajesh Kaul, business head (intermediate, medium and heavy commercial vehicles), Tata Motors, told reporters here.

He said this expectation was based on the premise that the government would step up capital expenditure, thus generating demand.

Mr. Kaul added that the company will grow in line with the industry.

This vertical contributes around 50-60 per cent to Tata Motors’ annual revenues.

To take on competition, the company will introduce telematics features in all categories of commercial vehicles, which would be linked to a server hosted by it.

This will allow fleet owners to get real time data and track the vehicles. With a market share of around 60 per cent in the commercial category, the company is planning to launch new trucks in the coming months, Mr. Kaul said.
