German luxury car maker Mercedes -Benz India is betting big on its E Class luxury sedan to further increase its market share in India, according to a top official.
The company, which rolled out the all-new long wheelbase E 350 d diesel and E 200 petrol in February this year, on Friday introduced another variant, E 220 d diesel at a price of ₹57.14 lakh ex-showroom Pune.
“The all new E 220 d will further enhance the unprecedented demand of the long wheelbase E-Class which is highest selling model for Mercedes-Benz,” said Roland Folger, managing director and chief executive officer, Mercedes-Benz India.
With GST discount, customers will pay ₹55.7 lakh ex-showroom Pune, according to officials.
All these cars are manufactured in India.
The E-Class sedan has re-emerged as the single highest selling single model for Mercedes-Benz in India, he said.
“E Class is the volume maker for us,” Mr. Folger added.
He said the new E 220 d was ‘highly’ frugal, consumed about 13% less fuel and was lighter by 17% than its global predecessor.
The company did not reveal the number of cars in the new E Class family it had sold so far. But it had sold more than 34,000 E Class cars in previous models since its introduction in India in the 90s.
