The Indian rupee appreciated by 9 paise to Rs 44.39 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by dollar weakness against other currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market.
The rupee fell by 5 paise to close at Rs 44.48/49 against the American currency in yesterday’s trade amid weak equity markets and dollar firmness overseas.
Forex dealers said dollar weakness against major currencies overseas and a higher start in the stock market supported the rupee against the American dollar in opening trade today.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was up by 75.91 points at 18,802.88 in opening trade today.
