PC maker HP on Wednesday forayed into the gaming devices market with the introduction of ‘Omen’ range of notebooks and desktop, priced between ₹79,990 and ₹1.40 lakh.

“The split from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has made our strategy very focused. It has helped us become the leaders in the PC and printer categories. We want to leverage our market and product leadership and target premium consumer categories like gaming that present tremendous opportunity for growth,” Rajiv Srivastava, Managing Director, HP Inc India told The Hindu.

The new range, Mr. Srivastava pointed out includes five notebook models, one desktop model and accessories to deliver a great experience to gamers. Some of the devices are also virtual reality-ready. The devices will start retailing in March on HP’ s website, select HP World stores, e-commerce portals and large format retail stores.

As per a FICCI-KPMG Report 2016, the Indian digital gaming market is likely to grow at a CAGR of 13.8% growth from ₹2,650 crore in 2015 to ₹5,070 crore in 2020. “And in a country like India, that has the largest millennial population, more than 50% population constitute the target audience for gaming. This indicates the potential of the market to grow in India,” he said.

With the new portfolio of products, the company wants to address the needs of avid gamers who just want great specifications. “Hence, we have invested in the best of graphics, power and performance in the devices. The new OMEN platform offers the features gamers rely on–power for battling on the go, graphics for smooth gameplay, great storage and advanced thermal cooling to tackle the latest games.”

The Omen range was launched by HP in November 2014 globally.
