Darjeeling tea charity auction fetches Rs.3.8 lakh

The charity auction of Darjeeling tea evoked good response on Thursday with a total of Rs.3.8 lakh being raised in the process through the sale of 35 kg of tea. The highest price was Rs.12,200 a kg for a lot from a tea estate in Kurseong. The auction, organised as part of the ‘Tea and Tourism Festival’ now being held in the hill station, was hosted by the India Tea Association, the apex association of North Indian tea producers. Altogether, seven lots of teas of 5 kg each from seven sub-districts of Darjeeling were put up for the auction.

The proceeds shall be donated towards the welfare of the people of Darjeeling,

The fortnight-long Darjeeling Tea & Tourism Festival- the second such- is being organised by GTA.
