Vodafone Essar on Monday announced the availability of ultra-low cost handset aimed at mass-market and rural consumers. Vodafone 150 (VF 150), which weighs just 79 gm and has speakerphone and black and white display, is priced at just Rs. 809.
At present available in Delhi, the device will soon be available across the country. It also comes with a one-year handset replacement warranty.
With the launch of the sub-Rs. 1,000 mobile phone, Vodafone aims to increase mobile technology accessibility.
To maximise the availability of VF 150 among the large and isolated rural populations, the company will provide an extensive logistics infrastructure, reaching deep rural segments where mobile penetration has remained low. “At the price point of VF 150, many more people will become part of the connected world.
“We will continue to facilitate consumer empowerment through such initiatives,” said Vodafone Essar Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Warke.
Vodafone has been able to significantly reduce manufacturing costs by focussing on a custom-built feature set and packaging design, without any compromise to user experience, quality or safety, Mr. Sanjay Warke added.
