Wipro Chairman Azim Premji on Friday announced the appointment of T. K. Kurien as the Chief Executive Officer of the company's Information Technology business, replacing joint chief executives Girish Paranjpe and Suresh Vaswani. “The joint CEO structure is one of the key factors that successfully helped us navigate the worst economic crisis.

“The change in environment requires a simpler organisational structure,” Mr. Premji said.

“It is not an easy decision to make since the two had been associated with Wipro for over 20 years,” Mr. Premji added.

“The role of Rishad Premji (Mr. Premji's son and Chief Strategy Officer) will not change. We have separated ownership and management issues,” Mr. Premji said in answer to a question on Mr. Rishad's role in the light of the leadership change.
